Mela-Bazaar organised in Varanasi

A 'Mela-Bazaar' was organized under the aegis of Zila Akaksha Samiti (ZAS) and Banaras Club at the club premises on Thursday.

As many as 30 stalls of various items were set up by voluntary organisations during the event.

The Mela Bazaar, was inaugurated by divisional commissioner Chanchal Kumar Tiwari.

He said the amount raised by the events like Mela Bazaar is used for the welfare of people

Chairperson of ZAS, Seema Tiwari applauded the efforts and co-operation of the district magistrate Pranjal Yadav in welfare activities of ZAS. Pratima Rai, Prarthana Singh, Nanda Singh, Priya Rai and Sandhya Srivastava were present on the occasion.

Alumni Meet: An alumni meet of 1983 batch of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) is being organised at Bhelupur area on October 19 and October 20.

Programme for under privileged: Round Table India is organising a special programme for the education of under privileged children at Ashapur area Friday.

Workshop: The second day of the disaster management workshop organised by department of Sangyaharan, faculty of Ayurveda, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) was held in the university premises on Thursday.

Several discussions, technical session and lectures were organised on the occasion.

Prabhat Pheri: The prabhat pheri under Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in view of the upcoming 545th Prakash Utsav (November 17) is going to start from Friday.

Varanasi still to find place on UNESCO heritage list

VARANASI: Over a decade ago, the Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) had prepared a detailed report highlighting rich culture of the city to propose its inclusion in the UNESCO List of World Heritage. At that time, the report draft mentioned: 'Everybody wonders why Varanasi hasn't been included in the UNESCO List of world heritage'. Since then nothing has changed.

In March 2008, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during his visit to the city, highlighted the ancient heritage value of the city and said that state government would be requested to prepare a Heritage Development Plan for Varanasi which would be funded from the JNNURM and other sources.

The only significant development so far is the preparation of Heritage Development Plan for Varanasi by the architectural and heritage division of Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and formation of a Heritage Cell by the Varanasi Municipal Corporation.
